Piedmont High School’s girls cross country team took first place in the small schools division of the Artichoke Invitational at Half Moon Bay on Oct. 5.
The girls were in a good pack, with all seven scoring in the eighth-27th range. The team score of 74 points was good enough to take the title. Leighton Mand finished 11th overall in 15 minutes, 29 seconds on the 2.3-mile course. Skylar Best was 13th in 15:40. Amalia Gray was 19th in 15:55 followed by Caroline Taylor in 30th in 16:16 along with Cora Chun in 31st in the same time. Gladwin Horsley was 35th in 16:24 while Mara Kemp-Malone was 39th in 16:29.
The Piedmont boys were led by Sebastien Swain who took 11th in 12:35. Noah Sohn was 42nd in 13:22. Thomas Ero took 70th in 13:42 while Devon Thai was 106th in 14:24.
