Boys water polo | Piedmont beats Bishop O’Dowd 11-6

Piedmont v. Alameda on October 17, 2024

Henry Stein scored five goals to help lead Piedmont High School’s boys water polo team to an 11-6 victory over Bishop O’Dowd on Oct. 22 at Mills College.

Stein added an assist and a steal. He scored all of his goals during an eight-goal run bridging the third and fourth quarters as the Highlanders blew open a 3-3 match. Elles Krieckhaus and Leo Hurwitz each scored two goals for Piedmont. Charlie Wright and Rylan Patty scored one apiece.

Hurwitz added two assists while Patty had one. Patty also had two steals. Goalkeeper Luke McAuliffe had nine saves and two steals.

Carson Brill and Zac Bezenek each scored twice for the Dragons. Eli McKoy-Beiser and Apollo Wang scored single goals for Bishop O’Dowd.

On Oct. 17, Piedmont fell 11-8 to Alameda at Encinal. The Highlanders scored the first two goals but fell behind 7-5 at halftime and were never able to catch up. Krieckhaus led Piedmont with three goals. Stein had two while Hurwitz and Zach Dupree each had one.

Zach Dortch scored six goals for the Hornets. Bruno Rossi had two while Gabe Fluss, Anthony Arena and Ray Martin Del Campo had one apiece.

On Oct. 15, Piedmont lost at Berkeley, 21-12. The Yellowjackets jumped out to a 12-1 lead at halftime. Krieckhaus had five goals for the Highlanders. Patty scored four. Stein, Wright and Hurwitz scored single goals. McAuliffe had seven saves.

Yair Sas had nine goals for Berkeley. Beckett Sas netted four while Torben Wihlbiller and Mateo Flores-Knapp had three apiece. Jaymul Barot and Oleg Mironov had one each.

The West Alameda County Conference tournament is scheduled to begin Oct. 28.
