Oct. 20 piano concert to benefit Save the Children

Beethoven Revisited focuses on Beethoven’s pianistic use of the sustaining pedal. He didn’t have one! (He did occasionally use a knee lever to sustain one chord.) Modern pianos sound bare without the pedal, so the concert will adapt early piano techniques to the resonant, powerful sound of modern pianos. Included in the program, for historical context, will be music by Mozart and Chopin.

Victoria Hurd studied Performance Practices as a graduate at Stanford University and has played piano and harpsichord for many years. She infuses her playing with a love of dance and song, and she sings with Chora Nova in Berkeley.
