Girls water polo | Piedmont gets out to 4-5 start

The Piedmont High School girls water polo team has opened its season with a 4-5 record.

Viviane Burke has 14 goals in the early going while Abigail Jacoby has 13 goals. Sydney Olsen has eight goals and leads the team with 11 assists. Jacoby has eight assists and Julia Montes has five to go along with two goals.

Esme Krumins has seven goals and four assists. Rachel Young and Sonja ten Grotenhuis each have three goals and five assists.

Chloe Graham and Zoe Waikus have split time in goal, with Graham recording 19 saves and Waikus recording 17.

Piedmont opened the season at the Labor Day Bash at James Logan, Aug. 30-31. The Highlanders opened the tournament on Aug. 30 by defeating Irvington, 13-5. They then lost to Castro Valley, 11-5.

On Aug. 31, they fell to Alameda, 11-2, then to Livermore, 10-3.

On Sept. 3, Piedmont lost at Newark Memorial, 15-12.

The Highlanders then went to the Newark Memorial tournament, losing to Granada 12-10 on Sept. 6. The next day, they beat Pinole Valley, 5-0, and then defeated American, 8-5. On Sept. 13, Piedmont lost at Albany, 16-6.
