Girls tennis | Piedmont rolls through league

Piedmont High School’s girls tennis team continued to dominate West Alameda County Conference play, sweeping Castro Valley and Arroyo.

The Highlanders beat Castro Valley on the road on Sept. 19, 7-0. Carolina Romanczuk defeated Aleksandra Hurka at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-0. Kate Jumper downed Kasey Mulato at No. 2, 7-5, 6-2. Arianna Kortun handled Elly Ly at No. 3, 6-4, 6-2. And at No. 4, it was Faith Chin over Alayna Sershen, 6-2, 6-1.

In doubles, Samantha Huynh and Maddie Tran downed Laina Zhang and Clarissa Sun at No. 1, 6-1, 6-1. Inara Mehta and Abigail Call beat Madison Lee and Kristie Fong at No. 2, 6-1, 7-5. And Alina Shahid and Ella Thomasson defeated Nicole Levano and Tapasa Tamang at No. 3, 6-4, 7-5.

On Sept. 17, Piedmont defeated visiting Arroyo, 7-0. Kortum beat Alisha Huynh at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-2. Chin downed Angelina Tran at No. 2, 6-0, 6-0. Lila Rosen defeated Jackly Huang at No. 3, 6-4, 6-2. Hallie Burden beat Jacqueline Nguyen at No. 4, 6-1, 6-1.

Mehta and Emma Chan won the No. 1 doubles match over Mia Chan and Stephanie Espivito, 6-2, 6-0. Shahid and Amelia Addington beat Rihanna Li and Perla Gallardo at No. 2, 6-0, 6-3. Thomasson and Chiara Silvio defeated Madeline Borgess and Keani Chi at No. 3, 6-0, 6-1.

In between, on Sept. 18, Piedmont lost a non-league match at Lick-Wilmerding-San Francisco, 6-1. Emma Eisemon and Samantha Huynh got the win for the Highlanders at No. 1 doubles, beating Madelyn Hsieh and Leela Ganguly, 4-6, 6-2, 10-8. The Tigers Camryn Marlow and Linda Palmer defeated Tran and Chan at No. 2, 6-3, 6-0. Hannah Lim and Sofia Susal beat Mehta and Addington at No. 3, 7-5, 2-6, 11-9.

In singles, Kira Iltchev downed Romanczuk at No. 1, 6-3, 6-3. Maahir Gupta beat Jumper at No. 2, 6-2, 6-0. Gisella Donohoe defeated Kortum at No. 3, 7-5, 6-0. Jocelyn Gursky won the No. 4 match over Chin, 6-3, 6-0.
