This rescue is loved for her quirks, fox-like-look, and interesting taste in foods.
Name: Navi, which is short for Navidad. She was found near the Mexican border while the song “Feliz Navidad” was playing in the car.
Members of Family: Abby and Matt Ross
Age: Around four.
Breed: We tested her DNA and discovered that she is a mix of Chow Chow, Golden Retriever, Australian Cattle Dog, and Miniature Schnauzer.
Adoption Story: Our friend, who lived in Texas, found Navi on the side of the road and posted on Instagram asking if anyone in Texas wanted a dog. I showed my boyfriend her photo and told him I would love to have this dog. A couple of weeks later I got a call from him asking if I 100% would want Navi, and I said yes. I returned from a trip and Navi was waiting for me in our apartment! She was only six weeks old. I cried for days out of happiness.
Likes: She loves to eat dirt—especially the dirt in Dracena Park, for some reason. She loves cheese, especially cheddar. She is obsessed with her blanket; she’ll carry it from the bedroom to the living room each morning. She is very protective of her parents, but very sweet. Once she warms up to someone, she will never forget them and will love them forever.
Dislikes: She doesn’t like men in work boots. Our USPS delivery guy is her Public Enemy No. 1.
Interesting facts: Whenever Matt gets home from work she acts as if she hasn’t seen him for years. When she gets excited, her entire body shakes (a daily occurrence). She is often compared to a fox, which is fairly accurate.
Anything else: She has taught us a lot about being patient. Both Matt and I grew up with extremely “easy” dogs. While Navi is sweet and wonderful, she has quirks that we’ve had to work on and learn to live with, which has been special. That experience has allowed us to form a unique connection with her: from the smallest change in her body language, I know exactly how she’s feeling.
That was THE MOST wonderful article on Abby and Matt who adore and respect their “quirky” dog!!! How inspiring that they treat their dear Navi like a member of the fam and respect her like the beautiful dog she is.
Great photos- thank you for sharing!!
