The kids are back! As school begins, keep an eye out for the many new cornflower blue shirts around town worn by the hundreds of Piedmont children who attended Camp Augusta this summer.

They may not know it, but they are continuing a long tradition in the community. Now YOU are invited to learn more about this special place that so many of our children call home each summer. Join us on September 21 for Wish, Wonder & Wine, an adult evening of fundraising in Piedmont! Enjoy wine, appetizers, auction prizes, and more while building community in support of Camp Augusta. We’ll hear from staff and campers about exciting updates from this summer, including the hugely popular new high ropes challenge course.

Camp Augusta is a non-profit organization that relies on the generosity of donations to support our ongoing and upcoming projects (and, of course, the magic!). Join us for a fabulous local evening out, and help keep Camp Augusta vibrant with dreams, curiosity, and delightful surprises for generations to come. Tickets cost $50 and are available here.

Piedmont has enjoyed a long and special history with Camp Augusta. The camp was originally donated to the girls of Piedmont in 1931 by Edwin and Charlotte Ehmann, which they named after Charlotte’s mother, Augusta. In the early years, the camp’s main use was by the Piedmont Council of Camp Fire.

Virtually all the young Piedmont women spent their summers at the camp. After the site was shuttered by the Camp Fire organization, a group of dedicated Piedmonters formed an oversight board and began the long legal battle to win the property back for the children of Piedmont.

While the site sat dormant for decades, the facilities fell into disrepair. However, with hard work and the support of the community, the 90-acre facility located in the beautiful forested foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains has received a variety of improvements over the years, such as the restoration of the original Ehmann Lodge where campers hang out in aerial silks; a kitchen where our chefs cook delicious, healthy, organic food that campers get excited about (have you ever tried Australian pizza with bananas on top!?); the “old school play yard”, a shady grove where you can find a plethora of games that were invented before 1950, such as bocce ball and horseshoes; and this year’s incredible new high ropes challenge course with over 40 elements to ascend.

While these improvements have helped Camp Augusta flourish into the vibrant environment that campers now enjoy, there are important projects to complete to continue to improve this home away from home, as camp fees only cover operating and program costs. The camp board includes many of your fellow Piedmont residents, and we hope you can join us on September 21 to connect with our special community and help us build what’s next for Camp Augusta.
