Piedmont East Bay Children’s Choir named ‘Youth Choir of the World’ at international festival

Ensemble, Piedmont East Bay Children’s Choir’s flagship touring choir, took home multiple honors last week at the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod.  The group won first place in the senior youth division (age 11-18), competing over multiple days with nearly 80 international choirs. On July 3, 2024, they faced off against the winning choirs from two other divisions to win the title “Young Choir of the World” for their performance of Salve Regina.

The festival showcased the finest of Welsh music and dance and featured an array of fabulous entertainers in the Wales Welcomes the World concert. Opening with the traditional Celebration of Nations, each choir proudly paraded the flags of the 30 countries competing in this year’s festival through the audience and up onto the stage.

Ensemble represents Piedmont East Bay Children’s Choir and the SF East Bay as musical cultural ambassadors throughout the world and regularly participates in international festivals, choir exchanges, and competitions. The group consists of treble-voiced singers of all genders who demonstrate superior musical proficiency, are under the age of 16, and are admitted by audition. Recognized all over the world as a leader in youth choral music, this year marked the first return to competition since 2017. Through regular participation in international exchange activities, Ensemble singers develop as global citizens and a greater understanding and appreciation of other cultures. Ensemble tours every year for 10-14 days internationally as a key part of singers’ musical, cultural, and social development, building strong bonds of friendship and teamwork.
