Two people were detained and one of them was arrested when drugs and burglary tools were found in a stolen vehicle, according to the Piedmont Police Department.
At 1:38 p.m. on June 17, a traffic stop was conducted on a silver 2003 Acura TL that had no front license plate. A check on the vehicle showed it had been reported stolen out of San Jose, according to Piedmont Police Department Captain Chris Monahan. He said the male driver had three warrants out for his arrest. A search of the female passenger’s bag turned up 80.88 grams of suspected methamphetamine, Captain Monahan said. He added that burglary tools were found in the car.
The driver was arrested and taken to Santa Rita Jail in Dublin and charged with possession of the stolen car, possession of the burglary tools and the three warrants. The passenger was cited for possession of the drugs and released.
On June 17, Piedmont Police observed a blue 2001 Jaguar S-Type with a covered license plate on Vista Avenue at 2:12 a.m., according to Captain Monahan. He said a “known suspect” jumped out of the vehicle and fled on foot on Bonita Avenue.
A search of the vehicle turned up several stolen items from Sheridan Avenue and burglary tools, according to Captain Monahan. The suspect was not found. A records check showed the suspect had a misdemeanor arrest warrant for narcotics, according to Captain Monahan.
On June 16, a green 2023 BMW X5 was reported stolen from a driveway at 2:30 a.m. The victim later reported that the vehicle’s tracking system said it was parked in front of a residence on 80th Avenue in Oakland. Police responded and found the vehicle and returned it to the registered owner.
On June 18, a bucket of tools worth approximately $300 was reported stolen on Scenic Avenue. Captain Monahan described the suspects as “drive-by thieves.” No other information is available.
On June 16 at 2 a.m., police stopped a black 2011 Honda Accord that allegedly ran a red light and was driving at excessive speeds at Grand and Lake Park avenues. The female driver admitted during the stop that she had drunk an alcoholic beverage, according to Captain Monahan. Field sobriety tests were administered and the driver was arrested and taken to Santa Rita Jail under suspicion of DUI.
At 11:16 on June 16, officers checked on a black 2017 Nissan Altima that was involved in a solo vehicle accident on Monte Vista Avenue. The female driver admitted during the stop to consuming alcohol, according to Captain Monahan. Field sobriety tests were conducted followed by preliminary alcohol screenings. The results were 0.142 and 0.145 percent blood alcohol levels, according to Captain Monahan. The driver was taken to Santa Rita Jail and booked for DUI.
