A residential burglary on Blair Avenue was reported on May 1. At approximately 4:30 p.m., an unknown, white female adult with blonde hair entered the residence. She fled the scene in a gray Ford F-150 truck, heading up Blair Avenue. The vehicle was found unoccupied on Oakland Avenue shortly thereafter, according to Piedmont Police Captain Chris Monahan. The vehicle was towed as evidence. The suspect has not been found. The loss is still to be determined.
A robbery was reported on May 2 on La Salle Avenue. Workers left a yellow DeWalt Chop Saw on the sidewalk in front of the residence. A white 1990s Ford E-series van with no license plate and two suspects in it stopped and one took the saw. The victims took their work truck and pursued the suspects onto Downey Court in Oakland. The suspect vehicle attempted to back out and struck the victim vehicle, according to Captain Monahan. He said that the passenger in the suspect vehicle pointed a gun at the victims and ordered them to move out of the way. The van fled south on Sunny Hills road.
Captain Monahan said the driver was described as an Hispanic male in his 30s with “blocky face spots,” clean shaven wearing a black beanie and a black sweatshirt. He said the second suspect was described as an Hispanic male in his 30s wearing a black baseball cap.
No other witnesses have been found. Video surveillance has been collected.
On May 1, a jogger was knocked to the ground by an unknown suspect on Grand Avenue, near ACE Hardware. The incident happened at approximately 11:58 a.m., The victim said he was “shoulder checked” by a Black male suspect, about 6-feet tall and 175 pounds, according to Captain Monahan. The suspect had no shirt, with tattoos on his chest, wearing a dark hat and green shorts. The victim told police he believed the act was intentional. The victim
suffered scrapes to his cheek, left forearm and left knuckles.
On April 26, a 1989 Toyota Cab Chassis pickup was reported stolen on Hazel Lane between 3:15 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. A stolen 2016 Hyundai Tucson had set off the city’s Automatic License Plate Reader (ALPR) system within the timeframe of the theft of the Toyota, according to Captain Monahan. He said there is no suspect information.
Also on April 26, a collision was reported on Wildwood Avenue at 9:28 p.m. Piedmont Police officers responded and found a red 2004 Mini Cooper stopped in the middle of the road, according to Captain Monahan. The driver was standing next to the vehicle, which had moderate damage to the passenger side. Two vehicles parked on the street nearby also showed damage.
The driver was contacted by police and, according to Captain Monahan, showed signs of intoxication. Officers gave her field sobriety tests. She then refused to take a preliminary alcohol screening test but consented to a blood draw, according to Captain Monahan. She was taken into custody under suspicion of driving under the influence and a blood sample was taken at the Police Administrative Building.
