An unknown female suspect attempted to hit a woman while stealing her car, according to Piedmont Police. The incident happened May 20 at 6:15 a.m. on Olive Avenue.
A woman described as a white adult, medium build with dark hair and glasses, wearing a red sweatshirt and dark colored sweatpants attempted to steal a blue 2019 Hyundai Tucson.
Piedmont Police Department Captain Chris Monahan said the victim confronted the thief in the driveway and that the suspect attempted hit the victim with the car in the driveway. The suspect fled in the vehicle and allegedly hit a silver 2006 Honda Pilot. Two unknown male suspects were acting as lookouts, according to Captain Monahan. The
Hyundai was later found unoccupied and towed for evidence. The victim had no injuries, according to Captain Monahan.
Also on the morning of May 20, a stolen 2014 Kia Optima entered Piedmont via Trestle Glen Road at Park Boulevard at 3:19 a.m., according to the city’s Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) system. Officers found the vehicle parked on Trestle Glen with two people in a driveway near a parked BMW, according to Captain Monahan. One suspect fled in the KIA. The other was confronted at gunpoint, according to the police log. The second suspect was a juvenile and taken in. A public defender was obtained, according to Captain Monahan. He said after an investigation and speaking with the owner of the BMW, it was determined that no crime occurred.
The juvenile’s mother was contacted and the parent gave permission to release them to a nearby relative, according to Captain Monahan.
On May 22, an unidentified suspect broke in to a parked Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van on Grand Avenue. The crime occurred at 11:34 a.m. The victim said a gray Jansport bag with approximately $800 in plumbing tools was taken, according to Captain Monahan. A suspect is described as a 5-foot, 11-inch, 150-pound male Hispanic adult in his mid-20s, wearing a white cap, a black hooded sweatshirt with large white writing on the chest and arms and brown pants. Surveillance video showed him approaching the van and fleeing on foot on Grand Avenue, according to Captain Monahan.
On May 24 at 1:35 a.m., a Piedmont police officer saw a black Infiniti G35 stopped in the northbound lane on Grand Avenue. The driver was asleep, according to Captain Monahan. He said that “after several attempts,” the driver woke up. The officer said the driver had slurred speech and watery eyes. The driver initially did not want to exit the vehicle, according to Captain Monahan, but eventually did. The driver was taken to Santa Rita Jail in Dublin and charged with DUI. The vehicle had a warrant for evading out of Dublin CHP, according to Captain Monahan, and was towed.
