Piedmont teams head to NCS playoffs

Piedmont High School’s baseball and softball teams each earned berths into the North Coast Section playoffs. And both teams received first round byes.

The Highlanders baseball team was granted the second seed in the NCS Division 4 playoffs. Piedmont will begin play in the second round on May 18 against the winner of the Hercules- Fort Bragg game.The Highlanders finished the regular season 15-8, although they went 2-6 down the stretch. Piedmont will be well-rested for its NCS opener, having 11 days off since its last game.

St. Mary’s-Albany was named the top-seed in the bracket.

The softball team received the fifth seed in the NCS Division 4 tournament. Its first game will be either May 17 or 18 at No. 4 Fortuna. The winner will face No. 1 St. Helena or the winner of the Hercules-St. Mary’s game on May 21 or 22.

Piedmont went 10-7 during the season, winning four of its last six games. The Highlanders will also have at least 10 days off since their last game.
