Piedmont High School’s Bodhi Bloemker shot an 82 in the North Coast Section Division 1 championships at Tilden Park Golf Course on May 13.
Josh Kim of De La Salle won the title, shooting a 67. De La Salle was also the team champion, with a score of 353, 31 shots better than second place San Ramon Valley.
Bloemker had qualified into the tournament by shooting a 67 at the NCS Division 2 championships the week before.
“He played like a stud,” Highlanders coach Gary Lorin said of Bloemker’s performance at the Division 2 tournament. “He could have been lower. He three-putted 18.”
Lorin said Bloemker had been coming on late in the season. “His game was progressing all year,” Lorin said. “He was confident and knew he’d be able to do it. He accomplished it and he did great. He worked hard.”
Lorin said Bloemker will attempt to walk on to the golf team at New York University in the fall.
Lorin is one-and-done as Piedmont’s coach. He believes the future is bright for his successor. “It was a good year,” he said. “I enjoyed it. A lot of progression. Piedmont golf is in a good state right now. Got a lot of freshman and sophomores that are going to carry the program the next couple of years.”
