Havens fifth graders Max White, Danilo Cabello Boyd, Shayan Bazargani and Evan Hetherington won the grade level title in Piedmont Recreation Department’s 3-on-3 basketball tournament in dramatic fashion on May 19.
The “Swish Kebabs” had something to prove after going undefeated until losing the championship game in the 2023 tournament. Led by Coach Doug White, the team coasted through early round play. Bazargani powered through illness to help the team to the finals, but was not able to play in the last game.
The Swish Kebabs fell five buckets behind in the 20-minute championship game. Due to the aggressive post play of Cabello Boyd, the scrappy defense of White, and the buzzer beater by Hetherington, the Swish Kebabs won the trophy.
