Beach Elementary School’s annual Beach Revue talent show had a record-breaking run after three shows at Alan Harvey Theater over the April 26 weekend. Organizers say they sold 1,100 tickets and the $31,000 net profit they made — $5,000 more than last year — was the highest in the Revue’s 54-year history. All proceeds go directly to the elementary school.
This year’s theme was “Metamorphosis” — following students as they transformed physically, mentally, and emotionally through the TK- 5th grade. The Revue’s purpose is to build an inclusive community, encourage creativity, share student talents, promote self confidence and most of all — to have fun.
Putting on the Revue is an all-hands-on-deck effort by the Beach parent community. This year, 26 volunteer directors directed fourteen songs about change, growing up, and transition for grades TK-fifth grade. The show included twelve scripted skits performed by 47 fifth graders, written by the parent team of Ben Stein and Arin Kramer (who also directed). A parent volunteer band learned an eclectic mix of songs in three months.
Parents Becky Ackerman and Heidianne Pillsbury were co-producers of the show for the second year. “There are so many life skills [the students] learn through Beach Revue,” said Ackerman. The pride they feel after conquering fears of being on stage and performing in front of a live audience is such a confidence builder.”
“This is an emotional final year at Beach for my family, said Pillsbury. “The memories and friendships formed through Beach Revue are so special and a huge reason that we will miss this unique community so much!”
