The rain did a lot to upend Piedmont High School’s boys tennis team’s schedule, but so far the Highlanders are handling it. On April 3, Piedmont won two matches. One, at home, was over a short-handed Encinal team, 3-1 on the courts. The other, at Alameda, was a 7-0 sweep.
The Encinal competition had only four matches, all singles. Jack Morgan beat Siddharth Bhatia at No. 1 singles when the latter had to retire during the second set due to cramps. Piedmont won the other three matches, with Derek Chan beating Ben Katz at No. 2, 4-6, 6-1, 10-8. William Richardson defeated Avery Ko at No. 3, 6-2, 6-4. And Elias Reed-Miguel downed Dash Wilson at No. 4, 6-0, 6-1.
At Alameda, Lucas Smolko handled Colin Pero at No. 1, 6-0, 6-2. Nate Welch got by Eddie Luo at No. 2, 6-3, 6-4. Graham Alban defeated Caleb Wong at No. 3, 6-2, 6-2. And at No. 4, Nick King beat Elvis Yi, 7-5, 4-3 (2).
In doubles, Arun Brahma and Monte Imburg downed Branden Lee and Julian Chea at No. 1, 6-3, 6-1. Hunter Fasteau and Will Tenney defeated Remi and Kyle Banducci, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 at No. 2. Maximo Miller and Kasper Jansson teamed to beat Colby Okasaki and Kandan Saheba at No. 3, 6-3, 6-1.
Now, Piedmont will have matches on three consecutive days. On April 10, the Highlanders will play at Head-Royce, followed the next day with a match at Berkeley, then on April 12, against University at the Golden Gate Tennis Center in San Francisco.
