Piedmont High School’s girls lacrosse team fell at San Marin on April 4, 18-5. The loss left the Highlanders at 7-3 on the season.
“We were playing some of the best lacrosse Piedmont has played in years,” Coach Carlton Chan said, noting his team had won four consecutive matches before that. “San Marin was a setback but it didn’t define us. They are the number 1 team in Div 2 for a good reason.
“We are healthy and playing with a full squad for the first time all year so we are hopeful going into the final stretch that we will finish strong.”
Ruby Guzdar had three goals in the loss to San Marin.
“Ruby is so consistent,” Chan said. “Even against a tough San Marin, Ruby still got her scores. Where she goes our offense goes.”
Friedie Schickedanz had the other two goals.
Abigail Brackett and Alex Chamberlain each scored five goals for the Mustangs. Abigail Bartholo had three goals while freshmen Peyton Chamberlain and Maddy Brackett scored two apiece.
Piedmont next hosts Miramonte on April 16 at Witter Field.
“Miramonte will be our final big test,” Chan said. “Hopefully San Marin has prepared us for Miramonte.”
Chan said Schickedanz has been playing well, adding that she “really has a great grasp of our offense.”
“Chloe (Graham) is playing very well as our number one cutter,” Chan said. “Hallie (Burden) is keeping us almost all the games with her draw control. For defense, Hailey (Marshburn) once again leads all stats. We are keeping her on the draw circle because she is the best at ground balls.”
