Piedmont girls lacrosse faces Urban in NCS playoffs

Piedmont High School’s girls lacrosse team earned the fifth seed in the North Coast Section Division 2 playoffs and will open with a home game on April 30.

The Highlanders will host No. 12 Urban-San Francisco at Witter Field at 7 p.m. The winner will face the winner of the Petaluma-Acalanes game on May 2.

Piedmont completed a perfect WACC season on April 26, defeated Bishop O’Dowd 8-7 in the WACC tournament championship match.

Ruby Guzdar scored four goals to lead the Highlanders, including the team’s final three scores. Her goal with five minutes, 54 seconds remaining in the game gave Piedmont an 8-6 lead. The Dragons Lucy Yu scored with 5:27 to go, but the Highlanders defense held the line the rest of the way.

Friedie Schickedanz scored twice for Piedmont while Chloe Graham and Hallie Burden each scored once. Burden added an assist.

Yu scored four times for Bishop O’Dowd. Frances Mulligan, Rosalinda Vera and Elliot Beckner each scored one for the Dragons.

Piedmont was 5-0 in regular season WACC play. The Highlanders defeated Newark Memorial 19-2 on April 24 in the WACC tournament semifinals.

Urban is 9-4 and went 6-0 in Bay Counties League play.
