Piedmont boys tennis rolls through Arroyo and Castro Valley

Piedmont High School’s boys tennis team rolled through a pair of West Alameda County Conference opponents. Now, thanks to earlier rainouts, the Highlanders will play two WACC matches on the same day.

Piedmont will take on Alameda on the road on April 3. It will also host Encinal the same day. The Highlanders will then head into spring break.

On March 26, Piedmont defeated host Arroyo, 5-2. Nate Welch played No. 1, leading a sweep of the singles matches with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Hector Martinez. Nick King beat Andy Troung at No. 2, 6-1, 6-1. Will Tenney won at No. 3, 6-0, 6-0 over Jaward Al Babuki while Siddharth Bhatia downed Jericho De La Cruz at No. 4, 6-0, 6-1.

William Richardson and Elias Reed-Miguel took the No. 3 doubles match for the Highlanders, defeating Rajib Lama Moktan and Ethan Thai, 3-6, 6-1, 10-7. Arroyo’s Justyn Gamib and Ninh Nguyen beat Kasper Jansson and Torsten Olsen at No. 1, 7-5, 1-6, 6-3. The Dons’ Luke Dinn and Kyle Liu downed Hunter Fasteau and Maximo Miller at No. 2, 6-2, 6-4.

On March 28, Piedmont beat visiting Castro Valley, 6-1. Lucas Smolko returned to his normal position at No. 1 singles, defeating Arik Hoffman, 6-0, 6-1. King beat Jeff Buhler at No. 3, 6-1, 4-6, 6-1. Tenney downed Joshua Kuwana at No. 4, 6-2, 6-2. The Trojans got their win at No. 2, where Daniel Lionel took care of Graham Alban, 6-4, 0-6, 7-5.

In doubles, Arun Brahma and Monte Imburg defeated Alexander Cheng and John Chen at No. 1, 6-0, 6-2. Jansson and Olsen beat Liam Hogan and Maxim Boychuk, 6-7 (2), 6-3, 10-5. Fasteau and Derek Chan defeated Elliot Simon and Samit Rath at No. 3, 7-6 (1), 5-7, 10-5.
