City Council to discuss FY2024-25 budget at April 15 workshop

The City Council will build on study sessions that began last month and formally initiate discussion of the FY2024-2025 City budget on Monday, April 15 at a special workshop before their regularly scheduled meeting.

City Council Budget Workshop
Monday, April 15, 4:30 p.m – 6 p.m.
City of Piedmont Emergency Operations Center, 403 Highland Avenue

At the meeting, Finance Director Michael Szczech will review revenue projections for the coming year, in addition to costs that are necessary to maintain existing service levels. The staff presentation will highlight budget requests such as high priority capital projects and other noteworthy funding requests. The City Council is anticipated to provide feedback that will shape the next stages of budget preparation.

Community members are welcome to attend and speak in-person at the meeting.

FY2024-2025 Budget Discussion Schedule
This is the first in a series of public meetings where the budget will be discussed. The current schedule is:
• Monday, April 29, 6 p.m.: City Council Budget Workshop
• Tuesday, May 14, 6 p.m.: Budget Advisory and Financial Planning Committee
• Monday, June 3, 6 p.m. : Budget Public Hearing – regular City Council meeting
• Monday, June 17, 6 p.m.: Adoption of FY2024-2025 City budget – regular City Council meeting

The proposed budget is expected to be published for review and feedback in early May.

In previous years, public budget discussions began in May, following the release of the proposed budget. The earlier start to the process this year continues the City’s evolution towards longer-term planning, a shift that has been underway for several years at the recommendation of the City’s Budget Advisory and Financial Planning Committee.

Leading up to this workshop, the City Council held study sessions devoted to governance and goal-setting in March and early April.
