They are a small but mighty team. In a stunning display of skill and determination, the Piedmont High School Swim Team emerged triumphant in their season opener against Castro Valley High School. Under the guidance of Coach Colby Price, Piedmont’s 31 swimmers took on 91 swimmers from Castro Valley. “The meet was really exciting, it was very much a David versus Goliath moment for the team. While it was very close in score, our depth of talent was too much for them,” said Coach Price.

Cole Carnazzo

Freshman Cole Carnazzo broke the Men’s PHS record for 100-yard breaststroke.  For Coach Price, a highlight of the meet was the team’s relays. “Our depth really shines when we can put out two very strong teams of relays for both boys and girls. We also have a really strong group of freshman boys that are going to shock some of the upperclassmen in the WACC,” he said.

The PHS Swim Team competes at the De La Salle Invitational this week, the first one in 15 years. Swimmers will compete all day Friday and will hopefully make it back on Saturday for finals. “This is a meet with a lot of high level swimmers and with the elite team we have it’s going to be a great opportunity for them,” said Coach Price.
