New showtime for ‘Second Thursday Flix Fest’

Piedmont’s Second Thursday Flix Fest, now in its second year, has a new showtime. Starting in April, movies will be presented in the afternoon, beginning at 1 p.m., instead of at the former 10:30 a.m. morning time.

The Flix Fest leadership team took a survey to determine interest in adjusting the showtime to later in the afternoon…and the community has spoken!

The social group was created in collaboration with a group of movie buffs as a way to bring the community together, to watch a movie and chat about it afterward. It began auspiciously with the Audrey Hepburn thriller “Wait Until Dark,” and has since offered successful showings of movies like “Grapes of Wrath,” “A Fish Called Wanda,” and “The Killing.”

Movies are presented at the Center for the Arts, at 801 Magnolia Ave. Attendance is free and viewers are welcome to bring snacks or lunch.

The April 11 movie will be the James Bond thriller “From Russia with Love” starring Sean Connery. Doors open at 11:45 a.m.

Upcoming movies are:

  • May 9 – “The Third Man”
  • June 13 – “Rabbit-Proof Fence”
  • July 11 – “Some Like it Hot”
  • Aug 8 – “To Live”
  • Sept. 12 – “Before Sunrise”
  • Oct. 10 – “Eat, Drink, Man, Woman”
  • Nov. 14 – “Bread and Tulips”
  • Dec. 12 – “Slumdog Millionnaire”
