Piedmont Public Works re-opened the Linda off-leash dog area on March 8, 2024. The city will keep the dog area open as long as it is possible to do so safely, but community members should expect future temporary closures if rainy weather returns.
Public Works first temporarily closed the off-leash dog area for this season in December due to hazardous conditions created by heavy rains. Slippery conditions, soil erosion, and unstable walking surfaces were exacerbated by ongoing rain storms throughout the winter, forcing an extended closure.
During periods between rain events, Public Works staff regularly inspect the site to determine whether the hillside is dry enough to re-open. The re-opening should be considered temporary until rainy season is over. It is likely that the park will need to temporarily close and that maintenance work will need to be done after most, if not all, future rain events.
