Piedmont High School’s boys basketball team closed January with a two-game winning streak as it heads into the final week of the regular season.
The Highlanders defeated visiting Alameda, 58-39 on Jan. 31. Ravi Silverberg led the way with 18 points while Brit Burden had 14. Dillon Casey added 11.
Piedmont broke open a 24-24 game at the half with a 19-4 third quarter.
Zion Moore and Jack Omarra each scored eight points to lead the Hornets.
On Jan. 29, the Highlanders hammered El Cerrito in a nonleague matchup at Binks Gymnasium, 62-15. Burden had 14 points while Casey scored 10. Piedmont jumped to a 17-1 lead at the end of the first quarter and never looked back.
On Jan. 27, Piedmont lost at Berkeley, 63-47. Dillon scored 18 and Burden 16 to lead the Highlanders. Ollie Miller led the Yellowjackets with 29 points, while Kavi Jivan added 14 and Samir O’Brien had 11.
Piedmont fell behind after one quarter, 20-13 but rallied to take a 29-27 lead at halftime. However, Berkeley won the third quarter 20-6. The Highlanders rallied and cut the lead to 53-47 but got no closer.
On Jan. 25, host Piedmont lost a tough one to Bishop O’Dowd, 51-46. The Dragons scored the final 10 points of the game in the final two minutes to pull out a second close win over the Highlanders. Dillon had 18 to lead Piedmont while Declane Linnane added 10. Joshua Green had 13 points to lead Bishop O’Dowd.
On Jan. 20, the Highlanders scored a nonleague win at Marin Catholic, 56-44. Silverberg and Burden each scored 21 to lead Piedmont. Burden added 10 rebounds and three assists. Casey scored nine. Linnane had five points, five rebounds, six assists and four steals.
Charles Williams led the Wildcats with 18 points. Joseph Hammond had 12.
The Highlanders surged out of the gate to take a 24-14 lead after one quarter. Marin Catholic rallied to cut it to 33-27 at halftime but Piedmont was able to maintain control.
Piedmont is now 15-9 overall and 6-4 in West Alameda County Conference Foothill Division play. The Highlanders next play at San Leandro on Feb. 7 before closing the regular season at home against Castro Valley on Feb. 9.
