On Tuesday, Feb. 27 the National Weather Service issued a blizzard warning for Thursday, Feb. 29 through early Sunday, March 3 for the Sierra Nevada. Blizzard conditions are expected Friday through Saturday morning. Snowfall accumulations of 5 to 10 feet above 5000 feet are expected, and the weather service said that mountain travel over long stretches of roadways will be “extremely dangerous.”

“Blizzard warnings are rare in the Sierra Nevada despite the regular occurrence of major winter storms,” said climate scientist Dr. Daniel Swain on social media.
Chilly temperatures, breezy winds, and periods of rain are expected in the Bay Area starting Thursday.
