The City Services Tax, Measure F, deserves support. I understand it’s hard to get excited about infrastructure and municipal services. You only pay close attention when you need them and they aren’t there. Some, like police and fire, we unconsciously assume we won’t really need ourselves. Others, like well-maintained parks, sidewalks and streets, we appreciate without actively thinking about why they aren’t irritatingly unkempt.
Personally, I don’t want to be the first cohort in forty years to experiment with just how bad things might be if we take a chance and reject Measure F. Right now, if I needed to summon the fire department in an emergency, I would not be worried that it might take them 30 minutes to get here. And it makes me feel good that my neighbors would not need to worry if they were in that situation. $12-21 per month is a small price to pay to maintain that community cohesion.
Infrastructure isn’t sexy, but it’s an important piece of what makes Piedmont feel like Piedmont.
Vote ‘yes’ on Measure F.
