We are writing to urge the voters in Piedmont to vote Yes for Measure F in the March 5 election. In our role as members of the City’s Budget Advisory & Financial Planning Committee, we carefully reviewed the long term financial projections for the City and, as discussed in our report, we are convinced that the Municipal Services Tax is a necessary piece of the City’s revenue. Renewing the tax will help maintain critical City services and will also provide additional funds for public safety.
The Municipal Services Tax has been renewed 10 times by the City’s residents since its inception in 1981. Given this consistent renewal and the foreseeable ongoing need for the funds, we also recommended that the City Council lengthen the term of this measure to provide more stability for the City’s finances and to avoid the extra costs that are incurred when the tax is up for renewal.
