Letter to the Editor | Chris Moore for Alameda County Supervisor

Why Chris Moore will help restore shared prosperity

Chris Moore is an unusual candidate for Alameda County. He gives me hope for a future built on economic growth, public safety, superior education, and beautiful communities. A future where our shared humanity and aspirations displace today’s divisive, zero-sum politics of identity and self-interest.

I have spent the year working with community members across the districts of Oakland and Alameda County. Families from every race, creed, and economic class share these same aspirations and hopes. But they have been sacrificed by misguided policies that propagate homelessness, facilitate crime and drugs, mismanage taxpayer funds, hurt public education, impair businesses, and destroy lives.

Chris understands this better than any candidate because he spends his time on the streets talking to neighbors, tenants, families, and seniors. Chris listens to people like no leader I have ever seen. Without ego, arrogance, or fear, he tackles problems with urgency. No problem or task is too large or too small for Chris. He is not afraid to roll up his sleeves and do the work. He knows how to build trust with people and build collaborations. His optimism is infectious.

Chris knows what it means to earn success. He began his adult life as an auto mechanic in a working class neighborhood of Philadelphia and worked his way to college, professional accounting, an MBA at Berkeley, a global executive, and now a provider of rent-controlled housing to families and seniors in Oakland.

His years navigating the public bureaucracies, and his service on both government and nonprofit boards have given him deep insight into government function and dysfunction. He has used that unique knowledge, and deep care for people, to save seniors from losing their homes. He understands diverse cultures and needs—from the families in his Oakland apartments, to neighbors in Piedmont who asked for his help organizing public safety meetings. No matter who you are, where you are from, or how much money you have, he always greets you with the same big smile and eagerness to help.

Chris is a passionate, growth-minded, servant-leader who is stepping up for one simple reason—because the County needs him.

  1. As a strong visible advocate for workers justice and a fair, just and equitable Community for all – I have gotten to know Chris as a potent collaborative partner for his good deeds, the quality of work that he brings to the table. He is genuine and sincere in his desire to achieve great results for our communities, immediately, if not sooner! He is not a career politician & is only running because we know he’s the only solution that is real and grounded & not dancing to the tune of the political power brokers… & he does it so well…imagine what he can do for the County of Alameda and it’s dwellers. To top it off, he was already doing the work to help improve quality of life for all of us before he ever decided to run for office – you rarely find someone who wants to be in office for ALL the right reasons! Vote Chris for REAL RESULTS!
