Four Piedmont teams make NCS playoffs

All four Piedmont High School winter sports teams made the North Coast Section playoffs as seedings were announced on Feb. 11.

The girls basketball team was seeded sixth in the Open Division and will host third-seeded Carondelet on Feb. 15 at 7 p.m. The Highlanders finished 19-5 on the court in the regular season and 6-1 in West Alameda County Conference play, good for a tie for first with Bishop O’Dowd. The Dragons also made the Open Division bracket, earning the fourth seed. They will face No. 5 Acalanes on Feb. 15.

The winner of the Carondelet-Piedmont game will face No. 2 Cardinal Newman on Feb. 21.

The boys basketball team earned the third seed in Division 3 and will host No. 14 Sonoma Valley on Feb. 13 at 7 p.m. If the Highlanders win, they will host the winner of Kennedy-Fremont against Alhambra. That game would be on Feb. 16.

Piedmont is 17-9 and 8-4 in WACC Foothill Division play.

The two-time defending NCS Division 4 champion boys soccer team was moved up to Division 3 this year. The Highlanders were named the No. 2 seed and will host Novato on Feb. 13 in the second game of a double-header at Witter Field. The defending NCS Division 4 champion girls team also moved up to Division 3 and will host Albany at 5 p.m. The girls team received the seventh seed.

The boys soccer team finished the season 11-2-3 overall and 5-2-3 in WACC Foothill Division play. The girls were 11-3-1 and 5-3-1.

If the boys soccer team wins, it will host a second round match on Feb. 16, against the winner of the Campolindo-Archie Williams match. If the girls win, they will probably have to play at No. 2 Cardinal Newman on Feb. 16.
