A male suspect was taken into custody on Jan. 1 when found placing “items” into the bed of a stolen pickup truck. The red 1998 Toyota Tacoma triggered the city’s Automatic License Plate Reader system at 3:16 p.m. The vehicle had been stolen in Oakland and was found on Kingston Avenue. According to Piedmont Police Department’s Lisa Douglas, the “male subject was found attempting to place items in the bed of the truck.”

Police arrested him and took him to Santa Rita Jail in Dublin for possession of a stolen vehicle.

A woman was accused of taking property from a porch on Dec. 29. Police were notified at 1:32 p.m. on Wildwood Avenue. By the time the police arrived, the reporting person was able to get their property back. According to Douglas, police found a suspect matching the description – a Black woman in her 40s. The alleged victim did not want to press charges. The suspect was “contacted and advised not to return and sent on her way,” Douglas said.

Early in the morning of Dec. 31, a male driver was arrested for DUI. Police observed a 2000 Toyota Sienna minivan at Piedmont and Ridgeway avenues in Oakland at 1:05 a.m. The officer observed that the vehicle had been potentially involved in a collision with a parked vehicle, according to Douglas.

She said a traffic stop occurred and the officer detected signs of alcohol impairment.

Attempts were made to conduct field sobriety tests but according to the police log, the driver was too intoxicated to comply. He was taken to Santa Rita Jail.
