Piedmont girls basketball takes 4 of 5 in new year

Piedmont High School’s girls basketball team continued to put together a strong season, winning four of five games to start the new year.

On Jan. 10, the Highlanders beat rival Bishop O’Dowd at home, 59-50. No other information was available. On Jan. 12, Piedmont defeated St. Joseph-Notre Dame, 72-33. Isabella Corral led the Pilots with 12 points while Melanie Martinez had 10. No Highlanders scoring information was available. Both games were at home.

On Jan. 13 at the Martin Luther King Jr. event at St. Mary’s College, Rancho Christian-Temecula defeated the Highlanders, 55-45. Bella Cosme led Rancho Christian with 17 points. No Piedmont scoring information was available.

On Jan. 19, Piedmont beat host Alameda, 53-50. Natalia Martinez and Samantha Smith led the Highlanders with 13 points apiece. Lindsey Wirgler Shakila Zuberi each had 11. Juliana Johnson led Alameda with 24 points.

On Jan. 20, Piedmont beat Lincoln-Stockton 46-43 at the SI20 Showcase at Carondelet. Martinez had 22 points and Smith had 11 to lead the Highlanders.

Piedmont is now 11-4 on the season, 2-0 in West Alameda County Conference Foothill Division play. The Highlanders are next scheduled to play at San Leandro on Jan. 24.
