Piedmont High School’s girls basketball team ran its winning streak to four with wins over San Leandro and Castro Valley. The Highlanders are 4-0 in West Alameda County Conference Foothill Division play.
Piedmont defeated host San Leandro on Jan. 24, 55-20. The Highlanders jumped out to a 17-5 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. Natalia Martinez had 24 points to go along with eight rebounds and four steals. Lindsey Wirgler had 11 points, five assists and three steals. Shakila Zuberi had eight points, seven rebounds and four assists while Kat Melian had seven points and three rebounds. Samantha Smith added five points and four rebounds.
The Highlanders had just six turnovers in the game.
On Jan. 26, Piedmont beat visiting Castro Valley, 64-47. Martinez again led the way with 31 points. Smith had 11 and Wirgler contributed 10. Melian added eight points.
Sofia Tom led the Trojans with 16 points and Naomi Chew had 11.
The Highlanders got out to a 20-7 lead after one quarter and extended it to 47-16 at halftime.
Piedmont next faces Bishop O’Dowd on Jan. 31 on the road. The Highlanders beat the Dragons in their first meeting on Jan. 9.
