Pickleball noise reduction technologies demo at Linda Beach Courts

From a Jan. 23, 2023 press release from the City of Piedmont:

In partnership with USA Pickleball, the City of Piedmont will host a demonstration day showcasing new pickleball noise-reduction solutions on Wednesday, January 24:

Demonstration Day: Pickleball Acoustic Solutions
Wednesday, January 24 | 11am-1pm
Linda Beach Courts | 333 Linda Avenue

The demonstration will showcase new acoustical solutions designed to reduce the sound output from pickleball play:

  • Sound absorption panels designed to reduce the acoustic footprint of pickleball play, made of a propriety fabric developed using nanotechnology and AI
  • Quiet pickleball equipment from 5 manufacturers, including paddles that have been tested to reduce noise by more than 50%
  • Acoustic monitoring tools designed to help assess, mitigate, and monitor potential noise impacts of pickleball play

“We’re excited to partner with USA Pickleball to showcase emerging technology and equipment at Linda Beach Courts,” said City Administrator Rosanna Bayon Moore. “We are a community of learners and this demonstration will accelerate our education as we continue to explore creative ways to support Piedmont’s active, engaged pickleball community while also being good neighbors.”

The event will also serve as the official launch of USA Pickleball’s new “Quiet” certification category, which recognizes equipment designed to reduce acoustic output during play without negatively impacting performance.

Community members are welcome to attend and observe these new technologies in action.
