Paul was born on December 5th, 1947 in San Francisco to Bernard Lahaderne and Mary Traynor. He, his sister, Denise, and his brother, Bob, grew up in a loving multigenerational home on Ashbury Street in the City. Paul often spoke of his childhood, and with great affection and appreciation for his parents whose hard work and sense of family would shape and guide his life.
Paul attended St. Agnes School and Saint Ignatius High School. As with his childhood, there were many stories of his high school days. He took great pride in his football years at S.I. under Coach Vince Tringali. Paul graduated from University of San Francisco; while attending school, he worked nights and summers to finance his education. He then went on to Hastings College of the Law. Before beginning his legal career, Paul served in the United States Army; first, at Fort Benning, followed by the reserves. Paul would retire from the Army as a captain. He would go on to have a distinguished career as an attorney. After starting his career at CalTrans, Paul would move to Sedgwick, Detert, Moran and Arnold. For twenty years, he was a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates.
In 1986, Paul met Teresa Craigie and they married in 1989. They have two sons, Peter and Jack Lahaderne. Paul was a devoted husband and a loving and supportive father. Whether it was driving all over northern California for Peter’s baseball games or building an easel for Jack’s paintings, he was a consistent and positive presence in their lives.
Paul was also active in the Piedmont community and many knew him from his involvement in youth sports. From coaching the Bruisers soccer team, to serving as President of Piedmont Baseball and Softball Foundation, to assisting with Piedmont High School Baseball, he always enjoyed contributing his time. Although, it must be admitted that, as a soccer coach, he was far more gifted at being a role model and keeping the team in line than with his knowledge of soccer.
Paul was beloved by his family, who will dearly miss him and his oft-told stories. He is survived by his wife, Teresa, and sons, Peter and Jack Lahaderne; sister DeeDee Dagemjian; sisters-in-law Mary Craigie, Ellen Craigie, and Jennifer Craigie; brother-in-law Peter Craigie (Conna McCarthy); nieces and nephews Kieran Craigie, Cormac Craigie (Lauren Craigie) Kathlyn Craigie, Matthew Bonini (Chelsea Bonini), Vincent Bonini, Robert Lahaderne (Michele Lahaderne), Jonathan Lahaderne (Rebekka Lahaderne), and Martha Lahaderne. Paul also leaves behind a large extended family, as well as many friends, neighbors and colleagues; all knowing Paul’s best story was not the one he told, but the one he lived.
