Learn a new language or improve your existing skills with a language class at Piedmont Adult School! Classes in French, Spanish, and Italian will be offered in the Spring 2024 session.
French levels 1A, 1B, 2 and 3 start the week of January 8. These in-person French classes are taught by Jean Monnier, who has been teaching at Piedmont Adult School since 2007. Previously Monnier taught at UC Berkeley, Head Royce and Campolindo high schools. In addition, he has written multiple papers and books on French involvement in the California Gold Rush and other topics.
Spanish Intermediate 1, 2 and 3 classes also start in-person the week of January 8. Instructor Afsaneh Olinga has been with PIedmont Adult School for nine years. Previously, she taught Spanish at all levels for 19 years at Skyline High School. She also taught at Oakland Adult and Career Education for four years.
Spanish Beginning 1 and 2 classes will start the week of February 26. These are taught by Helmi Waits. Helmi has been teaching at Piedmont Adult School since 2012. She lived and worked in Madrid, Spain, for 37 years, where she taught English to Cuban refugees.
Italian for Travelers, an online morning class starting January 9, will be taught by instructor Susan Galindo. Susan Galindo is a graduate of the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey, with degrees in French and Italian. She designs and implements interactive lessons, focusing on immersion into the target language ranging from travelers to foreign business professionals.
