LWVP to host former Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf at holiday luncheon Dec. 1

Former Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf to speak at LWVP event Dec. 1

The League of Women Voters of Piedmont (LWVP) will host former Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf on Friday, Dec. 1 at the Piedmont Center for the Arts (801 Magnolia Avenue) from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. for its annual holiday luncheon fundraiser. Schaaf will share her perspectives on public service and her current projects, followed by a brief Q&A.

As the 50th mayor of Oakland from 2015 – 2023, Schaaf led initiatives to make the city more resilient and equitable, and broke records in housing production, violence prevention, and road repair. Schaaf founded Oakland Promise in 2016, which by 2023 had become a 501c3 with a $15 million annual budget and $50 million endowment. These funds are a commitment toward higher educational funding for two- or four-year college degrees or vocational trade certificates for Oakland’s next generation of children.

Since leaving office earlier this year, Schaaf has served as a senior advisor to Emerge California, a program that recruits and trains Democratic women to run for political office, and is a lecturer at UC Berkeley’s Goldman School of Public Policy. She currently serves on the boards of California Competes, The NorCal Coalition of College Promise Programs, and The Climate Migration Council. She holds Senior Fellowships with Harvard Graduate School of Education and Mayors for a Guaranteed Income.

Schaaf’s talk will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by a bag lunch from Market Hall.

Register HERE today for this important fundraising event for the LWVP. Space is limited; $45 members and $50 guests.
