Piedmont volleyball falls in season finale

The Piedmont High School girls volleyball team closed out its season with a pair of tough losses in five sets. On Oct. 17, the Highlanders fell at Bishop O’Dowd, 25-16, 23-25, 17-25, 25-18, 15-7. The next night at home, Piedmont lost to Berkeley, 19-25, 17-25, 25-15, 25-19, 16-14.

Oct. 18 was senior night for the Highlanders as the team celebrated its graduating players.

Sadie Town, Izzy Grimmer, Maddie Hill, Beck Peterson, Bauer Peterson, Madeleine Mullin, Elena Stevens, and Molly Wagener were all honored before the match.

Town once again led Piedmont with 11 kills against Berkeley. Mullin added six kills and Beck Peterson three. Kalindi Kim had two aces.

The night before, Town had seven kills against Bishop O’Dowd. Juliana DeYoung had four kills. Wagener had two aces and two kills. Bauer Peterson contributed three aces.

The Highlanders finished the year 7-13, 5-7 in West Alameda County Conference play. They did not earn a berth in the North Coast Section playoffs. However, they did record the program’s first victory over Bishop O’Dowd in 32 years, beating the Dragons at home on Sept. 26 in five sets. That was the first time Piedmont beat Bishop O’Dowd since Nov. 5, 1991.
