The Piedmont High School girls flag football team won its second consecutive game, beating Encinal on the road on Sept. 28, 18-6.

Dahlia Osman scored on a 57-yard run early in the game and the Highlanders never trailed.

Piedmont (2-1) next plays at St. Ignatius on Oct. 3. The Highlanders will host Berkeley on Oct. 5.

“We went right out of the gate with offense,” Piedmont coach Beth Black said.

The Highlanders also scored on an interception return by Maisy Richardson to go up 12-0 in the first half. Late in the game, Mia Leggett connected with Malea Hartford on a five-yard touchdown pass.

“There was a shift in the team in terms of their physicality,” Black said. “We’re seeing more connections, more adjustments. They’re able to make adjustments in the middle of the game. It’s fantastic.”

The Piedmont offense put up 174 yards on 28 offensive plays. The Highlanders used Leggett, Friedie Schickendanz and Peyton Watson at quarterback. Osman’s run was their biggest offensive play of the game.

Richardson’s interception came at the Encinal five-yard line. She quickly brought it back for the touchdown.

“That was one of our goals this week, to get an interception,” Black said.
