A festive crowd took no mind of Sunday’s gray skies and periodic rain showers to gather at Piedmont Community Hall for the Piedmont Boosters’ annual Oktoberfest fundraiser for high school athletics programs. While the weather may have kept some away, those in attendance enjoyed beer, wine, and cider from sponsors, fresh Bratwurst sausages made by Piedmont Grocery and pretzels courtesy of Mulberry’s Market — plus rollicking music by German Oompah band Polkageist West.
The Boosters Club was founded in 1978 with a primary mission to support and facilitate the interscholastic athletic program at Piedmont High School. Funds raised by Boosters are distributed to teams and the athletic department based on a grant process.
