Neighborhood Watch, safety communication on agenda for Oct. 5 Public Safety Committee meeting

The Police Department encourages community members to attend the Oct. 5 meeting of the City’s Public Safety Committee at 5:30 p.m. in Piedmont City Hall. The Committee is a volunteer body of residents charged with investigating ways to increase public participation in crime prevention and providing a forum to share comments, issues, or concerns regarding public safety. Members of the Committee include:

  • Jeffrey Horner
  • Liz O’Neil
  • Marie Retheford
  • Georgina Russell
  • Jeanne Solnordol
  • Marilyn Weber | Chair

Other members of the Committee include:

  • Veronica Anderson Thigpen | Board of Education President
  • Chief of Police Jeremy Bowers
  • Fire Chief Dave Brannigan 
  • Conna McCarthy | City Council liaison

At the meeting, Chief Jeremy Bowers will provide a brief presentation on crime data and the police department’s current and upcoming strategies to address recent trends, then share reflections from recent dialogue with community members.

The meeting will also feature discussions on Neighborhood Watch and community safety communications. Attendees will each have an opportunity to provide one comment before the Committee discussion. The Committee will set a time limit for individual comments based on the number of participants.

Stay informed by following the Piedmont Police Department on Facebook, Instagram, and Nextdoor and speak with officers in person at regular Cop on the Block meet-and- greets, a Piedmont Police Department program that brings officers out of cars and into neighborhoods.
