Suspect stopped after running stop sign

A bicyclist was stopped after running a stop sign on Magnolia Avenue on May 27. The incident happened at 7:42 a.m. After consenting to a search, the man was found to have 3.33 grams of suspected methamphetamine on him, according to Piedmont Police Capt. Chris Monahan.

The bicyclist was cited and released.


On June 1 at 5 p.m. an individual was reported to be standing in the street on Hillsdale Avenue drinking alcohol and talking to himself. Police arrived minutes later and found a man holding an empty bottle of alcohol, according to Monahan. The man said he had warrants and would be going to jail, according to Monahan. A records search found he had warrants in Alameda County for burglary and possession of a stolen vehicle.

He was transported to Santa Rita Jail in Dublin.


A traffic stop on May 30 led to the arrest of a male suspect. At approximately 8:01 p.m., an officer observed a silver 2006 Infiniti M35 with no front license plate. Upon stopping the vehicle, the officer identified the man, who was found to have a felony warrant out of Berkeley for grand theft and elderly endangerment, according to Monahan. The man was taken to Santa Rita Jail.


On May 29, an abandoned 2004 Dodge Dakota was found on Mountain Avenue. The vehicle had been reported stolen and was towed.


On May 27, a report of “what sounded like gunshots” coming from Grand Avenue. The area was checked and nothing was found. It’s unknown if the sound was actually gunshots.


Piedmont police have announced “Cop on the block,” a series of community outreach events. The first one will be held June 13, when Police Chief Jeremy Bowers will be walking the beat on El Cerrito Avenue between Oakland and Blair avenues beginning at 3 p.m. Other events are scheduled for June 19 (5:30 p.m., Estates Drive between Park Boulevard and Selborne Drive) and June 28 (7:30 a.m., Greenbank Avenue between Oakland and Grand avenues). The plan is for the program to run year-round. Residents are encouraged to bring their questions and concerns directly to the officers.
