School board members ratified the appointments of a new assistant superintendent of education services and a new director of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging at the June 14 Board of Education meeting.
Ariel Dolowich will replace Cheryl Wozniak in the assistant superintendent role in July. Dolowich has served as the director of teaching and learning in Newark Unified for the last four years, and has 15 years of administrative experience, interim Superintendent Donald Evans said at the meeting. A native of Monterey Bay, Dolowich received his undergraduate degree from UC Davis and has two masters degrees — one from Johns Hopkins in secondary education and teaching and another from UC Berkeley in educational leadership and administration.
Jean Takazawa was appointed DEIB director to replace Dr. Marguerite Vanden Wyngaard. Takazawa is a Piedmont parent who has over 20 years experience in education. She has been a para-educator, led the affinity mentorship program in Piedmont, and has been on the board of the Piedmont Education Foundation.
