The City of Piedmont held an evening reception last Tuesday at Piedmont Community Hall to recognize the work of volunteers who have served on various city commissions and committees. The Piedmont Recreation Department also honored the recipients of the Betty C. Howard 2022 Recreation Service Award, PRD’s Sports Coordinator Akil Danjuma and the Title IX Committee. Many honorees were not present to receive their awards, but those who were received a certificate from the mayor and enjoyed refreshments provided by the city.

Betty C. Howard 2023 Recreation Service Award

The Betty C. Howard Award was created in 1979 to honor recreation volunteers and staff members for their dedication and outstanding service. PRD’s Sports Coordinator Akil Danjuma received this year’s staff award. The volunteer award went to the Title IX Committee, a group of parents who worked to raise awareness about the 50th anniversary of the landmark legislation that prohibits sex discrimination in education or activities that receive federal financial assistance.
