Piedmont High School’s swimming teams had mixed results in a meet at Berkeley on April 21. The boys team tied the Yellowjackets at 85-85. The girls fell to Berkeley, 94-76. In the West Alameda County Conference, the boys finished third in the regular season, while the girls took second.
Diver Nina Schwab won her event at a meet at Berkeley on April 18 with a total score of 227.15.
The boys team was missing top swimmer Simon Lins.
Tom Rolefson had a strong day for the boys, winning the 50-yard freestyle in 23.33 and the 100 freestyle in 52.70. Nik Costello was first in the 100 butterfly in 58.79 and the 500 freestyle in 5:15.56. Dima Secor won the 200 individual medley (2:10.68) and took second in the 100 backstroke (58-56). Evan Byun was first in the 100 breaststroke in 1:05.75 and second in the 200 freestyle in 2:01.11. Ryan Stokes had a second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:08.31 and a third in the 100 butterfly in 1:02.63.
Secor, Stokes, Costello, and Rolefson won the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays with a time of 1:48.09 in the former and 1:37.77 in the latter.

The girls were led by Taylor Rolefson, who won the 50 freestyle in 25.35 and the 100 freestyle in 56.65. Josie Oesterer was first in the 100 backstroke in 1:01.46 and took second in the 100 freestyle in 57.84. Sonja ten Grotenhuis won the 200 freestyle in 2:09.41. Sydney Olson was second in the 100 butterfly in 1:09.89, while Abigail Jacoby took a second in the 100 breaststroke (1:17.96) and a third in the 200 individual medley (2:23.68). Tyler Dacanay finished third in the 100 butterfly (1:10.00).
Oesterer, Jacoby, Taylor Rolefson, and ten Grotenhuis won the 200 medley relay in 1:56.73 and the 200 freestyle relay in 1:47.01.
The team celebrated its seniors at the meet. They are Lins, Stokes, Charlie White, Farris Saffouri, Hamza Mahmood, Annika Nilsson, and Odessa Dando.
Next up is the West Alameda County Conference championships on April 28 at Chabot College.
