Piedmont High School’s boys tennis team prepared for the playoffs with a pair of victories. The Highlanders defeated visiting El Cerrito 6-1 on April 19. The next day, they defeated an under-manned Mt. Eden team 7-0, with only four matches played.
A match scheduled for April 18 with Arroyo was postponed to May 3.
Against El Cerrito, Piedmont’s Lucas Smolko won the No. 1 singles match over Daniel Seo, 6-3, 6-2. The Gauchos’ Jayden Baumaceda scored their only point by defeating Ben Breber at No. 2, 7-5, 1-6, 10-8. Ethan Pham defeated Tory Johnson at No. 3, 7-6 (5), 6-4. Nick King downed Cole Raikow at No. 4, 6-1, 6-3.
In doubles, Monte Imburg and Arun Brahma beat Julius Barnes and Abe Ronnsar at No. 1, 6-0, 6-0. Graham Alban and Willie Tenney handled Henry Addison and Jack Malloy at No. 2, 6-4, 6-4.

Piedmont dropped just one game in four matches against the Monarchs, who do not field a complete team.
The Highlanders are next scheduled to host San Leandro on April 25 and Berkeley on April 26. The West Alameda County Conference championships begin on April 28 at Chabot College.
