Readmont 2023 | ‘No Stopping Us Now’ by Lucy Jane Bledsoe

We are pleased to announce the official launch of Readmont 2023, Piedmont’s community read project, now in its thirteenth year. To continue the awareness of the 50th anniversary of Title IX, all Piedmonters are encouraged to read “No Stopping Us Now” by Lucy Jane Bledsoe. Based on the author’s true story, it is a compelling examination of standing up for what is right. The book follows the story of Louisa who fought to bring her hometown into compliance with the new Title IX law so she could play basketball at her Oregon high school. It is a book about the love of sports, finding one’s own voice, and activism.

Readmont will be hosting a community discussion featuring the author, Lucy Jane Bledsoe, on April 26 at 7 p.m. in the Piedmont High School library.  We encourage all people who are interested in discussing the book as well as learning more about the author to attend the evening event. English department chairperson Beth Black will also lead lunch discussions during the school day on April 25 and 26 for anyone interested.

Books are available for check out at each of the Piedmont school libraries, including the high school, middle school and three elementary schools. This year, our books are funded through generous support from the Title IX celebration committee and the League of Women Voters of Piedmont. A Great Good Place for Books in Montclair is, also, offering a 20% discount on this title. We hope this common reading experience will forge positive connections among students, staff, parents and community members as well as encourage reading as a medium of collaboration.

Please join the community in reading our 2023 Readmont book.
