Victim declines to press charges
A mailbox was taken from a residence in the early morning hours of Feb. 4. The mailbox, valued at $25, was found later that morning.
The item was stolen at 3:55 a.m. from LaSalle Avenue. At 6:05 a.m., Piedmont officers responded to a welfare check and found a woman carrying the mailbox with her shoes in it, according to Piedmont Police Capt. Chris Monahan.
Using video surveillance, the woman was identified as the suspect, according to Monahan. The victim chose not to press charges.
A driver fled the scene after being pulled over on Fairview Avenue on Feb. 12, leaving behind what apparently were stolen items and a passenger. A Piedmont police officer pulled the vehicle over for “California Vehicle Code violations,” according to Monahan. As the officer approached, the driver fled towards Grand Avenue. The passenger identified herself and a records check showed her on probation in Santa Clara County for grand theft and in Alameda County for assault with a deadly weapon.
A search of the vehicle turned up “an unusual amount of what appeared to be stolen items,” according to Monahan. The items were new and in original packaging and were booked into evidence at the Piedmont Police Department. A warrant was put out for the driver, who had multiple prior warrants.
