On Sunday Jan. 8, three new Eagle Scouts joined the long roster of Eagles with Piedmont Scouts BSA Troop 1.
Liam Campbell is a senior at Piedmont High school. Tobin Cantrill, PHS ’22 is a freshman and collegiate baseball player at Chabot College. Cole Henrich is a senior at Head Royce.
The three scouts, their families, and their friends celebrated the milestone achievement in a ceremony at the Piedmont Community Church. On stage, each scout shared the stories of their final Eagle projects and reflected on their own journey to the Eagle rank.
For his Eagle project, Liam enlisted friends and fellow scouts to construct a 100-foot fence along the Wild Rose Trail in Joaquin Miller Park. The fence now protects a number of endangered plants in Fern Ravine.
Tobin’s project was also in the Redwood Regional Park. With a team of scouts and friends he designed and built a 30-foot wooden fence down a rocky section of trail behind the Chabot Space and Science Center to protect plants from trail walkers, mountain bikers, and dogs.
Cole embarked on and completed his project at the beginning of the pandemic. He secured donations of 60 used bicycles, repaired them, and delivered them along with helmets to underprivileged children in the East Bay.
Troop 1 Scoutmaster Bryan Cantrill, at the helm of Troop 1 since the three were in the junior ranks, shared stories about the scouts, drawing plenty of fond smiles as well as a few tears from the audience. Troop Committee Chair and former scoutmaster John Stewart led the ceremony.
