A new website that provides summaries of over four years of the Piedmont Recreation Department’s Walking on Wednesdays group’s walks was announced today. The site — viewable HERE — was created by Piedmont resident and historian Meghan Bennett, and is titled “Walking on Wednesdays (& Through Time) in Piedmont, California.”
The website tells the history of Walking on Wednesdays being started in early 2018 when Dick Carter, Patty White, and Andrew Wendel asked the Piedmont Recreation Department to sponsor a weekly walking group activity. However, the core of the site is over 150 different walk summaries from 2018 to the present that have been shared by volunteer Dick Carter, who usually leads the weekly walks, and are regular features in the Piedmont Post. Many of the walks drew on historical research done by Piedmont Historical Society President Gail Lombardi.
“Meghan has created a wonderful record of Walking on Wednesdays walks with this website,” said Dick Carter. “It is not only a walk down memory lane for us current walkers, but also provides walk ideas with local histories for future walkers of Piedmont streets. It is a great service and long term gift from Meghan to our community.”
The Walking on Wednesdays group meets every Wednesday at the Exedra (Highland & Magnolia Avenues) at 10:30 a.m. Everyone is invited to join the group. There is no charge to join the group. New walkers and their friendly K-9 best friends are especially welcome. Registration with the Piedmont Recreation Department is required.
