Piedmont’s girls tennis team had a big week, winning three matches on consecutive days.

On October 18, the Highlanders defeated Castro Valley at home, 6-1.

Piedmont’s singles teams swept their matches. No. 1 Tanya Kononova beat Ngoc Nguyen, 6-3, 6-1. Anne Jumper defeated Tasha Schauer in the No. 2 match, 6-1, 6-0. Carolina Romanczuk won the No. 3 match over Nicole Dong, 6-3, 6-0. Anika Gilliland beat Julia Mann at No. 4, 6-3, 6-0.

The Trojans got their win at No. 1 doubles, with Emily Lee and Alicia George beating Mara LaForte and Michaela Bini in three sets, with the thrid going to a tiebreaker. Cecilia DeFazio and Emma Eisemon won at No. 2 for Piedmont, defeating Claresia Son and Laina Zhang, 6-1, 6-1. Sophia Kalamas and Kate Jumper downed Lillian Sequiera and Bonnie Huang at No. 3, 6-0, 6-0.

The next day, Piedmont hosted St. Mary’s-Albany and took another 6-1 victory. Kononova again scored a win, beating Ella Franzese, 6-2, 6-1. Eisemon lost to Vera Ertel in a heartbreaker at No. 2, 0-6, 7-5, 10-6. Romanczuk beat Helen Pollak in the No. 3 match, 6-1, 6-3. At No. 4, Piedmont’s Ellie Broscow beat Makena Lai, 6-2, 6-1.

Piedmont swept the doubles matches. LaForte and Bini defeated Amaya Bells and Eva Roth in the No. 1 match, 6-0, 7-5. DeFazio and Kate Jumper downed Kayley Carter and Claire Abboud at No. 2, 7-5, 6-1. Kalamas teamed with Abigail Call at No. 3 to beat Samantha Tagag and Kiki Burlingham, 6-0, 6-1.

On October 20, Piedmont traveled to Alameda, where the Highlanders pulled out a 4-3 decision. Romanczuk clinched the match by winning at No. 3 singles, defeating Allison Kwan, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.

“Carolina defeated Allison Quan, who she lost to in straight sets only a few weeks ago,” Highlander coach Jim Landes said in an email. “This time, the match went to three sets but Carolina proved too strong, playing good defense and offense. Great win!”

Kononova defeated Juliana Johnson in the No. 1 match, 6-2, 6-4. Alameda’s Renata Serna beat Anne Jumper at No. 2, 7-6 (3), 6-3. The Hornets also took the No. 4 match, with Ashley Tan beating Gilliland, 6-3, 6-1.

Alameda’s Angelina Yi and Vankhnah Hoang defeated LaForte and Bini at No. 1 doubles, 6-3, 5-7, 7-6 (5). DeFazio and Eisemon downed Mia Johnson and Hannah Kim at No. 2, 6-4, 7-6 (4). Kortum and Kate Jumper beat Sara Jallali and Sarah Park at No. 3, 6-3, 6-2.

Piedmont hosts Berkeley on October 25 and will conclude the regular season on October 27 at Bishop O’Dowd. The Highlanders are now 11-3 and undefeated in West Alameda County Conference play at 8-0.
